Representation: Blog task

Find a YouTube clip from film or TV and complete the same activity we have just done in class:

1) List the different people/groups represented in the trailer (men/women/Americans etc.)

White women and White Men, black people, Americans and America.

2) For each group, decide whether the representation is a dominant or alternative portrayal.

White women and White men the representation is dominant as it potrays the the white female protagonist, Black Widow as being the damsel in distress as well as potraying Iron Man and Thor as being God like figures. On the other hand, it potrayed Black Widow in an alternative representation as she is an assassin.

3) What stereotypes can you identify in the trailer?

In this scene woman have been represented as being the victims or the damsel in distress this is evident in the way the hulk had to save Black Widow. However, the dominant stereotype of woman have been challenged as one of the main protagonists is an assassin with the capability to kill a squad of men. This is effective as it shows how society has evoloved and how how woman and men have equal status. In addition to this with Hulk Black widow is seen as a sexual figure or a figure for men to gaze at.
